Job Description

Recruitment Consultant, Education

Key details
  • Salary: £34,000 to £40,000 plus commission
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Superb office space in a manor house, Edgbaston
  • Requirement: Experienced in education recruitment
  • Desk: Warm. You inherit live clients, active jobs, and an existing candidate pool

The role
You run a desk. You fill supply and long-term bookings, manage permanent vacancies, and grow accounts. You build strong relationships with schools. You deliver staffing fast, safely, and consistently. Education recruitment is high volume, safeguarding-led, and unforgiving if your data is messy.

  • Warm desk, hit the ground running means
  • You take over existing school accounts with regular requirements.
  • You inherit active pipelines and current candidates.
  • You focus on service, fill-rate, and growth, rather than spending months begging for your first vacancy.

What you will do
Client management and school relationships
  • Manage day-to-day staffing requirements for your schools, including short notice cover and planned absences.
  • Take detailed job briefs from schools, confirm expectations, and agree timescales.
  • Build trust through regular check-ins and school visits, then turn service into repeat bookings and exclusivity.

Filling bookings and managing the pipeline
  • Match teachers, cover supervisors, TAs, and SEN staff to roles based on experience, location, and suitability.
  • Book candidates, confirm arrival details, and handle last-minute changes without melting down.
  • Maintain a forward pipeline for known needs, exams, maternity cover, interventions, and long-term roles.

Candidate management and delivery
  • Interview and register candidates, assess classroom ability, and set expectations on standards and conduct.
  • Coach candidates through placements, performance feedback, and school-specific requirements.
  • Keep candidates warm with consistent contact so you reduce dropouts and protect fill rates.

Compliance and safeguarding
  • Oversee compliance for every placement, including right to work checks, DBS status, references, and full vetting records.
  • Ensure candidates meet education safeguarding expectations before they set foot in a school.
  • Keep documentation and audit trails clean, because schools and audits do not care about excuses.

Business development and desk growth
  • Grow existing accounts through service, upsell, and expanding into new departments, key stages, and sites.
  • Identify new schools to target, make sales calls, and win new requirements to increase market share.
  • Negotiate rates and margins in line with desk targets and market conditions.

Data and process
  • Use the CRM properly. Track calls, bookings, compliance status, availability, and outcomes.
  • Produce shortlists and candidate profiles quickly and accurately.
  • Monitor KPIs like fill rate, time to fill, availability coverage, and conversion from temp to long-term or perm.

What you need
  • Proven experience billing within education recruitment.
  • Strong knowledge of supply, long-term cover, and education compliance basics.
  • Confidence with phone-based sales and candidate control.
  • Pace, resilience, and the ability to prioritise fast when schools change plans in real time.

What you get
  • £34,000 to £40,000 plus commission
  • Warm desk with live schools and immediate roles to fill
  • Strong brand and office base in Edgbaston, in a manor house, because humans love networking in buildings built for period dramas
