Location: Hybrid (First 2 weeks in-office, then 2 days in-office / 3 days remote)
Pay Rate: Up to £330 per day

Job Description We are currently seeking a Tribunal & Compliance Lead – SEND to join a Local Authority team, providing expert leadership and legal compliance within Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services.
This is a hybrid role requiring full-time office attendance for the first two weeks, followed by a 2-day office / 3-day remote working pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deputise for the Team Leader – Assessment and Review (Tribunal/Compliance) during absences or when required.
  • Lead the Tribunal/Compliance team, ensuring legal and operational compliance.
  • Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings.
  • Engage with senior staff at educational providers to ensure adherence to the Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Manage the statutory needs assessment and review process in line with the SEN Code of Practice 2015.
  • Provide direct support and challenge to providers, professionals, and families to reduce legal risk and ensure statutory compliance.
  • Oversee complex and high-risk cases that may pose legal or reputational risk to the LA.
  • Conduct lone home visits (if required) to assess children and develop aspirational, outcome-focused Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Deliver strategic reports to senior leadership to support policy and service improvements.
Essential Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEN Code of Practice 2015.
  • Proven experience in leading or managing SEND tribunal/compliance processes.
  • Ability to handle complex caseloads and manage legal risk.
  • Confident in engaging and influencing providers, professionals, and families.
  • Previous experience representing a Local Authority at Tribunal level is essential.
