Occupational Therapist – Independent Living Services
Location: Herefordshire (Hereford South, City, North & Duty Teams)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Locum – 3 months
Pay Rate: £29.71 per hour (PAYE) / £28.40 per hour (Umbrella)

Herefordshire Council is recruiting qualified, HCPC-registered Occupational Therapists to join its Independent Living Services. You will be part of a supportive and well-established service comprising Occupational Therapists, Technology Enabled Living Assessors, and Occupational Therapy Assistants.
We are seeking motivated and committed professionals with a strong working knowledge of community occupational therapy services and adult social care. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available across Duty and Locality teams.

The Role: Occupational Therapists within the Independent Living Service work in partnership with adults, their families, and carers to promote independence, wellbeing, and enablement when illness or medical conditions impact daily living.
You will work primarily within individuals’ own homes and local communities, delivering bespoke interventions, advice, and equipment solutions to support safe and independent living.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a varied caseload undertaking functional, social, and environmental assessments
  • Promote independence through person-centred, strengths-based practice
  • Assess for and facilitate provision of:
    • Aids to daily living
    • Minor adaptations
    • Moving and handling solutions
    • Specialist community equipment
    • Technology Enabled Living (TEL)
  • Identify risks and barriers to independence and implement appropriate interventions
  • Support and supervise junior staff where required
  • Maintain professional standards and comply with relevant legislation and best practice
  • Work collaboratively with social care, health, housing professionals, and external agencies
  • Contribute to service development, team working, and continuous improvement
Requirements:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience in community-based OT and/or adult social care
  • Strong communication, organisational, and assessment skills
  • Ability to work independently across rural, town, village, and city settings
