Pertemps is working in partnership with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to recruit an experienced SEND Case Officer to join their dedicated team supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a supportive local authority team, ensuring that children and young people with complex needs receive the right support and education to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
📘 Statutory Assessment
- Act as the named officer for a caseload of children and young people, coordinating statutory assessments under the Children and Families Act 2014.
- Ensure the council meets all statutory targets, performance indicators, and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively across education, health, and social care to deliver holistic assessments.
- Support and advise families throughout the EHC process, ensuring their rights and voices are heard.
- Represent Children’s Services in annual reviews of Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans, including for children educated otherwise than at school.
- Make evidence-based, outcome-focused recommendations to secure progress for children and young people with EHC Plans.
- Advise and assist parents, schools, and colleges on appropriate educational provision and placement.
- Chair and attend multi-agency meetings to discuss complex SEN issues.
- Provide advice and training to SENCOs and professionals on statutory responsibilities and best practice.
- Support smooth transitions between education phases, ensuring EHC Plans are updated accordingly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools and partner agencies, ensuring effective implementation of the Graduated Response.
- Work closely with the Commissioning Team to manage placements, contracts, and resources efficiently.
- Contribute to financial oversight of High Needs Block spending.
- Support the preparation of legal cases and participate in mediation or dispute resolution when required.
- Analyse data and highlight trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Proven experience working within a SEND Casework or EHCP role in a local authority or educational setting.
- Strong understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the statutory EHC process.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with families and professionals.
