Job Description

We are looking for a Wastewater Flow and Compliance Specialist to join Thames Water on a full-time permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and improving wastewater compliance across the Thames region, ensuring that wastewater assets operate in line with environmental and regulatory requirements.

The role is wide ranging, and involves close collaboration with OperationsCapital Delivery, and Data & Analytics teams, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a technical, cross-functional environment and has a strong attention to detail.

What you will be doing as a Wastewater Flow and Compliance Specialist
  • With a focus on flow compliance, support Site Managers and Process Specialists regarding flow to treatment. Have a good understanding of data and systems used to produce flow compliance reports. Provide training and coaching on reports and systems.
  • Be able to update spreadsheets and analyse flow data, feeding into meeting packs and presentations for area reviews, monthly business reviews etc.
  • Support rollout of new instrumentation, review data and configuration issues and support sign-off process. This will improve the data quality and assessment quality driving wider programs.
  • Review flow compliance data to develop reporting, and also to identify routes to resolving data and asset issues.
  • Support Control Room Teams to ensure sufficient response to flow issues.
  • Support the Smart Waste program with the future enhancements of digital tools.
  • Carry out sites visits (2-4 per month) to confirm configuration of flow meters and event duration monitors, support and coach site teams.
  • Work with site teams and process scientists ensure that the flow action tracker is maintained, with accurate records of actions complete and actions due. Escalate overdue actions. Ensure local cost-effective actions are exhausted before deferring improvements to larger scale projects.
  • Review location of temporary monitoring cameras to support and confirm data quality – working with supplier to relocate and manage deployment.
  • Review site performance pre and post project delivery – highlighting issues as project scopes are developed, and review site performance to confirm project delivery.
  • Review and analyse specific site failures to understand root causes, support with site visits, analysis of SCADA data and update site actions plans.
  • Support technical responses to data queries, which may be from internal or external stakeholders.
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role are:
  • Fully competent in using Microsoft Office software, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting. Experience in other Company' IT and SCADA systems would be an advantage.
  • Able to extract, manipulate, and present data effectively to support decisions and reporting.
  • High attention to technical detail is essential to ensure accuracy in flow data interpretation, compliance tracking, and incident investigation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness and ability to mentor and transfer skills to colleagues, helping build team capability in compliance monitoring and flow analysis.
  • Understanding of wastewater permitting.

What’s in it for you?
  • Offering a salary between £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays).
  • Contributory pension – Defined Contribution - Maximum of 12% -2x employee contribution.
