Location: Plymouth
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm)
Rate: £17.47 per hour
Contract Type: Temporary Assignment
Start Date: 13/10/2025
End Date: 31/08/2026

About the Role:
Pertemps are currently seeking a proactive and experienced Team Leader to join our clients Business Support team within Plymouth City Council. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills and a passion for service excellence to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic public sector environment.
As Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of a high-performing team. You'll play a key role in ensuring the delivery of efficient, customer-focused services that meet performance targets and provide value for money. This is a generic role across the Business Support area, offering flexibility in service delivery and ensuring a clear point of escalation at all times.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and manage staff to maintain high morale and performance
- Ensure health and safety compliance across the team
- Handle and resolve complaints, identifying learnings and improvements
- Provide strategic input to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction
- Manage employee conduct, performance, and development plans
- Conduct timely and fair appraisals aligned with Council standards
- Collaborate with managers to develop service and continuous improvement plans
- Stay informed on relevant policies, legislation, and statutory regulations
- Provide expert guidance and make final decisions on complex customer queries
- Deputise for Managers and other Team Leaders when required

Role Outcomes
- All appraisals and attendance managed in line with Council policy
- Complaints resolved effectively and in accordance with Council procedures
- Compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies
- Delivery of an efficient, fit-for-purpose service aligned with team performance targets

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- GCSEs A*-C (9-4) or equivalent in English and Maths
- Proven experience in:
- Leading and mentoring teams
- Managing high-quality public services
- Addressing and improving poor performance
- Using Microsoft Office and web-based systems
- Providing professional advice via phone, written communication, and in-person
- Working in customer-facing environments
- Coaching and developing colleagues
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Management or supervisory qualification
- Experience in delivering measurable service improvements and increasing customer satisfaction
